These counselors work with clients by helping them to manage and overcome the psychological, emotional, and behavioral challenges related to substance use. SUD counselors help to promote long-term sobriety, emotional stability, and overall mental wellness for both the individual and their family. Mental Health Counselor: A Mental Health Counselor is a licensed professional who helps individuals, couples, and families manage and overcome emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges. They assess clients’ mental health conditions and develop personalized treatment plans to provide therapy for a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, stress, grief, and life transitions.
Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community. Mental health also includes a person's ability to enjoy life - to attain a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience.
